History of AMG C class

Being one of the best tuning company in the world, you can never lose to your rivals in this industry. Here it is the Mercedes C class line up of their AMG model from their first car.

1. W201 AMG 190e (evo I & evo II)

In 1989, launched the first performance version of compact Mercedes Benz to compete with the E30 M3 that came out in 1985. Although it wasn't known by people as C class at that time,it is the w201, 190e 2.5-16 evolution. It is using the engine tune by AMG call the "power pack", 2.5-16 stands for its engine displacement and 16 valves per 4 cylinders. This particular engine as standard can produce 202bhp while the

“ Amg pack" produce a reasonably increment at 225bhp on the evo I and 235bhp on the evo II (larger spoiler).

2. W202 AMG C36

In 1993, launched the first generation C class.This is the first time Mercedes and AMG came together to develop a sport version of C class. Therefore the name is still be used till now in all performance C class line up till now. As the name suggest clearly it is powered by a 3.6-liter straight six engine producing 280bhp.

3. W202 AMG C43

In 1997, unveil the first ever V8-engined C class having 4.3 litre engine that produce a whooping amount of 302bhp and 409nm of torque.

4. W202 AMG C55

In 1998, Mercedes Benz can never lose, therefore it's displacement was increase to 5.4 liter producing 347bhp.

5. W203 AMG C32

In 2000, another C class the W203 arrived. Being in the car industry of 21st century, car tent to look sleeker and there goes the boxy car design being history forever. In Malaysia this is one of the most recognisable C class as its headlight looks like peanut "花生" headlight. AMG C32, the performance series of W203 is the first ever supercharged AMG in its class.

6. W203 AMG C55

In 2005, w203 had a generation refresh, the C32 is replaced by C55 with 5.4 litre v8 naturally aspirated engine from the AMG C55 w202 engine family. Despite its huge engine, the C55 shared the same front end with the CLK55 AMG, it is also one of the two AMG model that feature different structure from its base C class platform.

7. W204 AMG C63

(when AMG gets really serious about being the fastest)

This is the first AMG- Mercedes that are designed from the ground up, previous model of AMG is more like plug and play by inserting a huge engine so it result in more understeer and imperfection in car handling. This C63 has front suspension from the CLK63 AMG black series. It also has ESP that can completely be turned off and driving dynamics selector. Transmission has been improved with 7G- tiptronic automatic transmission that has AMG speed-shift and three shifts modes- comfort, sports, manual. This is the fastest 4 door production sedan at its time.

(2012-2015)

The face-lifted Mercedes C class came out in 2012, therefore there is an improved version of C63 in the market. Under the hood its still the same 6.2litre V8 engine with 457hp, it can also be increased to 487hp with the AMG performance package. The engine is matted with new seven speed MCT gearbox that offers four driving modes including comfort, sport, sport + and M. Gear shift in S+ and M takes just 100 milliseconds producing very crispy exhaust pops and crackles. The most obvious element changed of this face-lifted model is the slimmer headlight with

7. W205 AMG C63/C63s

It was a huge step for Mercedes Benz to come out with this all new unfamiliar design to Mercedes Benz, the sharp looking edgy w204 has been replaced by a luxury looking round edges 4 door saloon. Looks like Mercedes Benz has made its aggressive looking C class into a more gentle and well mannered piece of machine. It is also a very huge changes on the engine capacity down sized from the legendary 6.2 naturally aspirated V8 into a 4.0 interligently tuned twin turbo V8 that mimic the old big engine displacement. The riffle like quad exhaust that have valves open and close producing loud bang when you up-shift or downshift for engine braking, that's the anger that been brought from the old C63 to this new car.
