Always eager to test drive an AMG, I finally had this opportunity to test drive one after traveling from Malacca to Kluang approaching Mercedes Benz road show for the second time convincing them to give me a chance. I always felt that it must be harder to drive a performance car compare to a regular car since this car is over 500 horse power and all its power is transfer to just both of its back wheel. So in my opinion, as it does not have sophisticated 4-Matic, Quattro or GTR AWD, I might experience tremendous amount of over-steer and crash the car if I am careless.

Before this, the most powerful car I have driven is the C350e plug in hybrid with 290hp and 600Nm of torque. Therefore this is the first two door coupe high performance V8 muscular sports car that I drive.

It was unexpectedly super easy to control this AMG C63s regardless its huge amount of horse power because it is too well designed, as long as you don't turn it into the "Race" mode which disable the ESP ( electronic stability control) and traction control, you will be fine driving it just like a regular car. For your information there are four mode selections from comfort to sport, sport + and race for you to select according to your own preferences and road condition. I was told to only switch the most to "Sport +" mode while driving it, that was the most amazing 20 minutes of test drive session in my life

The name of this car: C63s coupe

Just like many other car that wearing the three-pointed star, the 63 badge is not related to displacement of the car, as you can see in my previous post, "The history AMG C-class" history, all the cars were badge according to its engine displacement, c32 stands for 3.2 liter and C55 stands for 5.5liter of engine displacement you have under the hood.

Why do they still using the name C63 as it is using a 6.2liter v8 from 2009-2014 and it became more obvious when they down sized the 6.2liter to a 4.0 liter engine. Why do they love the name "63" so much as they could name it C62 or C40 instead, it does actually have a historical significant about this "63" thingy, in 1963,

Mercedes Benz introduced its 600 limousine powered by a legendary 6.3 liter (M100) engine that produce remarkable amount of 250hp and 503Nm of torque, so it acts as a tribute to the engine as C63 represent quite a huge amount of pride in Mercedes Benz.

The driving experience of this car:

Despite the down sized engine, this engine is never lose to its predecessor bigger displacement engine, it produces a higher amount of torque at 650Nm with its twin turbo system, not much car I have driven but still drove few cars with turbo, the acceleration is quite instant without turbo lag.

As you can see the twin turbo is located in between the V compartment of the V8 engine very near to cylinder of the engine, taking maximum advantage of every single exhaust pulse energy hence reduce its lag. Its engine growls angrily once I begin driving the car at lower rpm giving you the essence of true muscle car, steering feels amazingly light but not disconnecting you from having the bonding with the road. I don't like some of the EPS (electronic powered steering) that make you feel too light and disconnected affecting your driving pleasure. Most importantly the sound of the exhaust system, there are three computer controlled exhaust system flaps that manage the amount of noise coming out from the quad AMG exhaust muffler. The sound different is very obvious between comfort mode and sport + mode, it sounded gentle in comfort mode till you turn it into the sport+, you immediately can feel the vibration even from the cabin itself, and there is also an exhaust valve button that can be switch on and off, with sports + and exhaust valve open, no aftermarket exhaust is needed as it sounds really crispy and full of bass. As you drive down the road, that's the true sound you should get from a V8 sports car, it spits, bangs and cracks whenever you downshift or upshift, every pops and crackles of the car, all those gear changing farts, sound of retardation of combustion makes a huge point of buying this car. This car is equipped with 7speed MCT (multi clutch transmission) with AMG SPEED-SHIFT, it does shift reasonably quick enough but I don't know is it responsive enough as Volkswagen dsg that I have tested perform quite close to it.

All I can say about this car it is amazing, it's like a dream come true if any AMG enthusiasts can own this car, it's very expensive therefore it should be this great and it really is. The design of the car is so sleek, and I really fell in love with its look as I look at it with my naked eye, the curves, the fastback kind of tail, it is utterly sexy from whichever side you look at it. The exterior that gives you the AMG blacken angry kind of look.

>The luxury AMG badge red black interior where you can option it to nappa leather.

>IWC "Ingenieur" analog clock that make you feel extra premium.

>AMG carbon fiber interior trim ( not carbon wrapped plastic).

>Matte black forged 19inches front and 20inches rear AMG rim.

>AMG performance quad exhaust with pops and crackles.

>The S version get an electronically control rear differential.

>AMG three stage damping sports suspension.

>AMG dynamic select where you can personalize the suspension, steering, throttle, gear change.

>Panoramic roof.

>Most importantly the (M177) 4.0 biturbo hand built engine.

This car is extremely well made in many perspective but it does have some down sides too, I took a long time figuring out whether the center console is carbon wrap plastic or real carbon fiber as the sales advisor himself doubting about that, extremely expensive price tag of RM773.888 for a car that share the same platform and interior design of base model c180 or a c200 coupe.

As a respect to AMG, they have been this great even from where they started and they are being more amazing today.

drive session I ever had in my life.
